Huge Floods in Durban Days Before Climate Change Conference
On Sunday November 27th, 2011 at least ten people died in record floods in a township right outside of Durban, South Africa, called KwaMashu. This was on the eve of the 17th annual UN Climate Negotiations, where world governments would meet to discuss what to do in the face of climate change.
Occupy the COP
During the final days of the Conference of Parties (COP17) in Durban South Africa an illegal protest was organized. Youth, members of countries effected most by climate change and those concerned with the slow moving process of the United Nations event gathered outside the plenary room and marched down the hall. The protest lasted for two hours until the final two protesters were taking away.

Kick Coal Action by CDM Watch
Durban, South Africa, 6 December. As countries are negotiating the global climate crisis, an open letter sent by a broad coalition of green groups including Greenpeace, WWF and Friends of the Earth to the COP Presidency today calls for an exclusion of coal power projects from the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). Groups claim such projects undermine the integrity of the CDM and the already weak climate targets.
